Project
Manager Mark Mandell was born in Wimbledon, England, an Air Force brat. As a
result of his father’s career, he has spent much of his formative years
living and learning in such places as Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, and England.
Mark’s a graduate of the School of Architecture at UVA. His senior project
was a design for the Museum of Modern Art in Helsinki (this was part of a world-wide
contest to find the best design for the new museum). Mark was one of only two
Americans honorably cited for their designs. His background in design and architecture,
along with working in construction for many years, give him a unique set of
skills and abilities.
“No one is better at doing truly custom work than Abrahamse and Company.”
he comments. “It doesn’t matter if it’s residential or commercial.
I’m proud of what we can do. Take Rapture, the restaurant on the Downtown
Mall. Design and construction happened simultaneously, with lots of negotiation
on all sides. The finished result felt like a team effort arising from the architect,
builder, and
owner. Each
party brought vision and ideas to the job. A finished product ends up being
so much better when this happens.”
Mark says, “At Abrahamse and Company, I’ve never worked with a
more loyal and committed group of people, each with many different abilities."
In addition to his background and creativity in design, other strengths Mark
brings to the company are his straightforwardness with others and his ability
to listen to honest feedback about himself.
Mark has many
artistic interests, such as drawing, painting, ceramics, and photography.
And while his big hobby used to be traveling throughout the world, he still
manages to take in some new vistas on the back of his Harley Davidson.
