I started Abrahamse & Company Builders in 1974 after several years of teaching special education in New York City and Southern California. Living, working, and raising a family here in our beautiful Piedmont Virginia area has been a blessing. I have had a wonderful thirty-plus year experience of dealing with great clients, architects, and employees. I have been fortunate to have surrounded myself with a great team of project managers, estimators, and supervisors who share my passion for fine, custom construction. Several of us “old folks” have been working together for more than twenty years here at Abrahamse & Company.
At Abrahamse & Company we boast about our accomplished crew of full-time carpenters, which allows for tight control over scheduling and the attention to detail required in complex construction projects. I know it may be considered old fashioned, but our workers do both framing and finish work and whenever possible we maintain the same crew intact and on the project from beginning to end which, I believe, insures continuity of communication and quality.
The combination of experience in the field and experience in construction management provides us with the capabilities to contribute to the project through accurate estimating, active value engineering, efficient contracting, as well as providing the necessary quality control and performance in the field. The experience that Abrahamse and Company brings to the table provides great value to our clients.
Our firm enjoys working with the area’s best architects. We have also had the opportunity to work with some fine “out of town” architects over the years with very favorable results. We very much appreciate the role that a talented architect will play in the construction process as we stay attuned to the vision and decisions of our client. Our attitude is that it is our job to manifest the design as it is envisioned in the spirit of cooperation and true collaboration between members of the building team composed of the owner, designer, and builder.
We take pride in the Abrahamse and Company management and supervisory capabilities. We practice being “good-listeners” in order to understand the needs of our clients. Our clients’ needs are unique from job to job and we welcome their participation in the building process to the degree that they wish. We believe in complete and detailed record keeping, budgeting, scheduling, billing, and changes in the work. Detailed and clear communication between the contractor and the client is a major part of our responsibility. Our reputation has been built on fairness and honesty with our clients, subcontractors, and suppliers. Our continuing intention is that our clients relax and enjoy the construction process because they know their needs will be taken care of fairly and honestly. We believe that business can be conducted with integrity and that is how we practice it.
