I appreciate your taking time to allow me to introduce Abrahamse & Company Builders, Inc.  For thirty-five years, Abrahamse and Company has been a leading custom builder in greater Charlottesville, Albemarle and surrounding counties doing residential and light commercial remodeling, and new work.  Our clients have sought out a conscientious contractor providing the highest quality workmanship, competitive pricing, excellent communication skills, and on-time completion.

I started Abrahamse & Company Builders in 1974 after several years of teaching special education in New York City and Southern California.  Living, working, and raising a family in our beautiful Piedmont area of Virginia has been a blessing.  I have had a wonderful thirty-five year experience of dealing with great clients, architects, and employees.  I have been fortunate to have surrounded myself with a great team of project managers, estimators, supervisors, and craftsmen who share my passion for fine, custom construction.  Many members of this team have been around for more than twenty years. Choosing a contractor capable of performing at a high level of excellence, and one that can function and add value as a member of a construction team, is one of the first and most important choices to be made in any construction project.  Abrahamse and Company has the management experience and construction knowledge to add value throughout the construction process.  The combination of experience in the field and experience in construction management provides us with the capabilities to contribute to the project through accurate estimating, active value engineering, efficient contracting, as well as providing the necessary quality control and performance in the field.  The experience that Abrahamse and Company brings to the table provides great value to our clients.

With few exceptions, and when it makes economic sense, our projects are done with our own in-house carpenters.  As old fashioned as it sounds, we have an accomplished crew of carpenters who work for us on a full-time basis.  I honestly believe that this allows for tight control over scheduling and the attention to detail required in complex construction projects.  Our complement of carpenters, who do both framing and finish work, has the experience and skill to build in any of today’s building styles.  Whenever possible we maintain the same supervisor and crew intact and on the project from beginning to end, insuring continuity of quality and communication.  Perhaps most importantly, I believe this continuity instills a sense of pride and ownership in the work.

We also take pride in the Abrahamse and Company management and supervisory capabilities.  We practice being “good-listeners” in order to understand the needs of our clients.  Our clients’ needs are unique from job to job and we welcome their participation in the building process to whatever degree they wish.  We believe in complete and detailed record keeping, budgeting, scheduling, billing, and changes in the work.  We consider detailed and clear communication between the contractor and the client is a major part of our responsibility.  Our reputation has been built on fairness and honesty with our clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.  Our continuing intention is that our clients relax and enjoy the construction process because they know their needs will be taken care of fairly and honestly.  We believe that business can be conducted with integrity and that is how we practice it.

Abrahamse & Company Builders, Inc. is the first certified American Lung Association Health House builder in the state of Virginia.  We are also EarthCraft and Energy Star Builders as well as having two LEED Accredited Professionals on staff.  We are committed to building processes that result in superior indoor air quality, energy efficiency, sustainability, and durability.  We enjoy partnering with our clients to design and produce construction that meets the most up-to-date standards for responsible building.

Our firm enjoys working with the area’s best designers and architects.  We very much appreciate the role that a talented design professional plays in the construction process.  While working closely with the designer or architect, we stay attuned to our client’s vision and decisions.  Our attitude is that it is our job to manifest your design as you envision it in the spirit of cooperation and true collaboration between members of the building team composed of the owner, designer, and builder.
